Recent NewsThis page has been discontinued in favour of a monthly newsletter.Click here for the latest newsletter Click here to see all newsletters OCTOBER 2008 I ran a webpage design workshop, which was a bit of an experiment to see if People could come to th workshop and leave with a page operating they could later easily update using a cms system. We had five hours, but it wasn't long enough. We will arrange another day. There are more people wanting pages, so I'l be doing it again. I am running for the position of president of the Dunedin Theosophical Society with the AGM next month. It would create some great opportunities to do some work developing our local alternative spirituality community. I'm upgrading my website - I hope you are noticing. I'm a bit over half way so I'm working on that. I have been making good progress on my book and can see a first draft in sight. Next month I will be in Invercargill quite a bit, so there will be more free time to work on it. SEPTEMBER
2008
September was a busy month with a speaking tour of the South Island for
the Theosopohical Society. I spoke in Invercargill, Gore, Christchurch
and Nelson and will speak in Oamaru next month. The Christchurch want
me
to go back and give a different talk. I was well pleased
with the
feedback I received. It also gave me an opportunity to catch
up with friends like Michael Cocks, Brian Layton and Alan Admore and
family in Nelson and Rowena and Max. Irene and Graeme had their wedding
anniversary and I had the annual National Training Event in Rotorua.
AUGUST 2008 The complexity series continus well at the Theosophical Society, Work continues well facilitating my third programe. I visted the new Chinese Gardens that have been built here in Dunedin JULY 2008 My Complexity series at the Theosophical Society has been going well. I presented my Fairy Story workshop again.
JUNE 2008 I flew across to Brisbane
for a CSIRO conference on complex systems and gave a 20 minute
presentation on the emergence of a philosophy of complexity. It was a
really inspiring conference with great people, really absorbing
presentations and networking opportunities. I begin my series of
evenings sessions on Complexity Theory at the Theosophical Society and
Michael Cocks will be presenting my talk on Ervon Laszlo to the
Christchurch society. I also talked about my trip to Vietnam to the
local Spiritualist Church.
MAY 2008 I presented a talk as a part of the opening for the Evolve Trust on What we have to do to move beyond violence. I had a holiday to Hong Kong and Vietnam, which was really amazing. I went to Hong Kong and had a day of tours around the city. the next day was a day trip into mainland China to Shekou, Shenzen and Guangzhou. From there I flew to hanoi and began the 14 day tour including Hanoi, Halong Bay, hue, Hoi An, Nha Trang and Saigon There were lots of highlights from the shopping, the Buddhist temples and rituals, the French, Chinese, Japanese Russian and Hindu etc. influences. Sites from the war with America, meeting the people, the tour group (7 of us). From Saigon I returned to Hong Kong and macau before returning to New Zealand APRIL 2008
I presented a workshop on fairy stories and myths and how they can be used for inner healing. Six people came for a sucessful workshop. It ended needing two days to cover all the material. I gave a talk at the Theosophical Society on Spiral Dynamics. There were only 12-15 people, but it went over well. I also did a one day workshop (that turned into a 2 day workshop) on Fairy Stories at Carnegie Cottage) The Rainbow Warrior II came to Dunedin, so I went to see it. MARCH 2008 I gave a successful talk on Ervin Laszlo's ideas at the local Theosophical Society. I have been working to get a website up for the Theosophical Society and the Evolve Holistic Development Trust. I have begun to help Margaret van der Vis in running the Theosophical Society's weekly meditation group. FEBRUARY 2008 My close friend, Ted Sommerville died in late January. We knew he was going to die, but it happened much sooner than we thought. We took Ted back to his flat after he died, so people could come and visit him there. Then we had his funeral in the Theosophoical Society hall. Ted had asked that I I conduct the service, which was a great priviledge. The service went well with over 100 people there. The whole process was a very intense, but positive time as we worked through all the issues and made the decisions necessary to organise the funeral. The funeral was on Wednesday and then on the Sunday I conducted a memorial with ted's ashes at the Spiritualist Church. We will all come together in a couple of months to scatter his ashes at a local beach. A group of around twenty of us travelled to the Elephant Rocks near Duntroon in North Otago for a picnic day. They are very large strange shped limstone rocks. Here are some photos. JANUARY 2008 I luckily had three weeks' leave. In early January I went to Nelson and spent some time at Okiwi Bay then back in Nelson. I saw the Leonardo da Vinci exhibitoin there with models made from his drawings of the machines he planned. I went to Motueka and visited Ian and Julian. I returned via Mount Cook/Aorangi because I had never been up to the mountain before. The weather was glorious and it was a great trip. I was trying my new car out for the first time, which ran well. There are photos of the trip. I am back at work preparing for the start of the next programme. This will be in the prison again. I got Skype to work with video calls to Brian Layton which has been fun. DECEMBER 2007 This month saw the national conference for programme facilitators in Rotorua. I also visited my friend Brian Layton, now living in Murupara. While in Murupara I met two other people I know, who lived in Dunedin. We had a great time walking in the natural scenary of the area and going to some local marae. We were on the edge of the territory that has been in the news lately with suppposed terrorists hiding in the Ureweras. The programme at the prsion was completed and we went to Christchurch for the end of year party. It is good as it helps to keep us connected to the Christchurch team. I stayed on and had the weekend with Rowena and Max and we went for a good walk up to the golndola from Lyttleton. Then I spent Christmas back in Dunedin with Emerald. I got sailing a couple of times. |
